Let's Talk Budget

This consultation has concluded.

Budgets are a sometimes tricky - what's in and what's out? What can we afford, what do we need to save for, and what do we need to replace or fix? No doubt you ask yourself these questions all the time when you're looking at your household budget.

The City also asks those questions when we are preparing our own budget. We know we only have so much money, and we know that residents need or want certain things. In fact, some of the things we pay for, invest in, or maintain are the reason you live and work in Red Deer.

The City wants to prepare a budget that is informed by Red Deerians. We want to hear what you would do if you were building a budget that would meet your needs.

Your input will help us prepare a budget that will balance your expectations, our corporate needs, and the current economic reality. You have the chance to tell us the right and wrong choices for our community.

So go ahead; talk to us about budget.

Municipal property taxes are the primary way to pay for services provided by The City. Due to the increased cost of maintaining service levels and infrastructure, The City of Red Deer must balance tax rates with service delivery levels. To deal with this situation, do you think The City should increase taxes to enhance services, or cut services to maintain current tax levels? What would that service level change be?

The City's responsibility is to look after the common good. When we make decisions we need consider all aspects - environmental, cultural, economic, and social - and impacts they all have on quality of life. With all those things considered to make an authentic community, what inspired, innovative or vibrant ideas do you have to save The City money?
